Where the money goes
Tame The Tigers’ proceeds – a record $125,000 in 2015 - benefit the Pediatric Patient Activities Fund at the Jimmy Fund Clinic. This provides funding necessary for the Jimmy Fund to organize activities that provide our pediatric patients with a different type of medicine and therapy that cannot be prescribed by a doctor; a chance to just be a kid!
2016's incredible tournament total will specifically fund the 2017 Annual Red Sox Spring Training Trip, which will take 40+ teenage patients (along with volunteer physicians and nurses) to Fort Myers, FL to meet their Red Sox heroes and to enjoy some time in the sun away from the hospital.
This is often the first time many of our teen patients meet each other, providing them valuable time to share experiences and build lasting relationships. The trip is a true example of the “medicine you can’t prescribe,” giving patients the chance to recharge their batteries and take a break from the exhaustive cancer treatment process.

ABOUT THE JIMMY FUND
The Jimmy Fund supports cancer care and research at Dana-Farber. The Jimmy Fund started in 1948 when the Variety Club of New England and the Boston Braves baseball team joined forces to help a 12-year-old cancer patient dubbed “Jimmy.” On a national radio broadcast, millions heard the boy visit with his heroes from the Braves as they stood by his hospital bed. Contributions poured in from people everywhere, launching an effort that continues to bring hope to thousands of children and adults facing cancer throughout the world.
Since 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of grassroots efforts to advance the lifesaving mission of Dana-Farber. An official charity of the Boston Red Sox, Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and Variety Children’s Charity of New England, the Jimmy Fund is an American favorite.
